DECES DE L'HISTORIEN DU CINEMA RICHARD SCHICKEL A 84 ANS

Le critique et documentariste Richard Schickel est mort à l'âge de 84 ans le 18 février à Los Angeles. Né en 1933 à Milwaukee, cet historien du cinéma avait débuté comme critique dans les années 1960, notamment pour TimeLife et le Los Angeles Times.
Il a surtout été l'auteur d'une trentaine d'ouvrages consacrés au cinéma américain, de 1960 à 2015: he Disney Version: The Life, Times, Art and Commerce of Walt DisneyHarold Lloyd: The Shape of LaughterDouglas Fairbanks: The First CelebrityCary Grant: A CelebrationD.W. Biographies, livres d'entretiens, beaux-livres, encyclopédies (notamment une sur la Warner en forme de trilogie): Richard Schickel se vantait d'avoir vu 22590 films dans sa vie depuis son premier, Blanche-neige et les sept nains de Walt Disney en 1938.
Il a aussi été l'auteur et le réalisateur de nombreux documentaires, essentiellement pour PBS, la chaîne publique américaine. Il fut nommé aux Emmy Awards avec The Men Who Made the Movies, Life Goes to the Movies, Minnelli on Minnelli, Elia Kazan: A Director's Journey et Shooting War: World War II Combat Cameramen. Il a aussi été l'auteur de documentaires sur Star Wars (The Making of Star Wars, From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga) et les légendes qu'il admirait (Cagney, Grant, Cooper, Barbara Stanwick, Eastwood, Chaplin).
